Suggest a News Meme

April 30, 2006

I had forgot about Google Suggest but a post on the Official Google Blog reminded me about it: I will use it again instead of the normal Google page.
Suggest is a type helper and can assit in formulating a better search (or it just save you typing time):

As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses what you’re typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to Google’s “Did you mean?” feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, except that it works in real time.

Jon McAlister, author of the post, suggest another intriguing value:

seeing the Suggest list gives me a sense of the most common news queries.

It is a kind of real-time Zeitgeist.

In the screenshot below, the suggest list on GoogleNewsSuggest for “go”.
